Why do hurricanes attack coastal regions?

Public Comments

  1. They can't form without the water. They gain momentum in the ocean. The land slows them down. That's why some of them break down before hitting the inner regions. The coast can help break them down causing some of them to slow down to a lower category.
  2. They try to avoid the Inland Revenue Dept.
  3. Hurricanes fuel off of warm water of about 80 degrees F or around that temperature. The water provides energy for the storm. Without that energy, the hurricane cannot stay "alive", and dissipates upon reaching the inland areas, but will still remain as strong rain storms, just not as a tropical depression/storm/hurricane.
