Is Nova Scotia very different from coastal Maine? I need help....?

I was thinking of vacationing up north (by way of The Cat: http://www.catferry.com/) but want to feel like I'm in a different place than the coast of Maine. Nova Scotia: Yarmouth, South and Fundy Shore, Halifax, Cape Breton, or New Burnswick? It costs the least to go to Yarmouth.... But is it too much like Maine? Or should I spend the extra $ and go to one of the other maritime areas? What are some fun things to do in Eastern Coastal Canada? Come on Dave I know you can help me out here! EXCUSE ME .? I am not who you think I am, I do not bad mouth any Canadian that doesn't deserve it! And I'm not from Texas. So F*CK YOU!

  1. After you leave Yarmouth, head towards the Annapolis Valley; visit Acadian culture and language; see the Fundy tides; cut down to the South Shore at Wolfville/Kentville and see historic Lunenburg; then on to Halifax and beyond. There will be few thoughts of Maine.
  2. Well, I've been to Halifax, and it was a ton of fun. The bars stay open til 5 am, and there are lots of them. After the bars, we went to this really cool restaurant called La Cave, drunken fondue at 5 in the morning, yay!
  3. The scenery isn't dramatically different - they are both on the eastern coast and the Atlantic Ocean is the same in both places, but the people are vastly different. The people in Maine show their British heritage, while the people in Nova Scotia demonstrate their Scottish heritage. And you'll see evidences of the two different cultures everywhere you look. Nova Scotia is a great place to visit - and don't spend too long in Halifax - get out to the eastern side where the small towns are, and step back in time.
  4. Sorry I did not answer earlier. But now I can take the time. Also I'm going back to Saint John New Brunswick on the 17th of June until the end of August. The Coastal areas of New Brunswick will be the same as Maine in most cases. First I'll give you a few sights. http://www.new-brunswick.net/Saint_John/ http://visitors.halifax.ca/events.shtml http://novascotia.com/en/home/aboutnovascotia/default.aspx http://www.tourismnewbrunswick.ca/ I hope this helps some and you may have found some of this out already. As you know I've been only back once in the last twenty years and that was two summers ago, and I just went to my home town of St. John N.B. But I can tell you Halifax, is a great party city, and the people are very freindly. You will find the same in my home town. If you love meeting people it's the place to go. And if you happen to stop in St. John, you have to take the trip to St. Martins, it's about 25 to 30 minute drive from St. John, thats were my ancestor's were from, they were ship builders, and they have a lovely musem, there filled with my ancestors things. If your goin to either place, July is the best month to go the weather is at its best most of the time. I wish, I could show you pictures I have, but I'm not to go at sending them to some on the computor. But anyway if this don't help I'm sorry, but I hope it works for you. Hey maybe we might even bum into each other would that be funny. take care dave I hope this works for you. if you need anything else about your trip just e-mail me and I will see what I can do and maybe even a little clearer for you. take care and enjoy your trip.
