climate questions?
True/False 15. average of temperature over a period of year is part of weather. 16.atmospheric conditions that can change very quickly are called weather. 17.temperature is part of climate and weather. 18.the troposphere is warmed by the underside of clouds. 19.air expands as it is heated 20.cool sinking air tends to be an area of low pressure 21.maritime means areas found near mountains 22.mesothermal areas do not stay very hot or very cold all of the time 23.in tropical areas the humidity tends to be very high and pressure low 24.doldrums mean not going anywhere, gloomy. 25.isotherms are lines connecting places that have the same average barometrics pressure. 26.maritime climate areas are near the ocean AND are mesothermal. 32.the earths rotation causes winds to turn to thr right in the southern hemisphere. 33.winds are named by the direction they blow toward. 34.uneven heating of land surfaces cause the wind to blow 35.mountains wet on the east, dry on the west side

- 16. Sounds right 17. Yes 18. No 19. Yes 20. No - warm air rising tends to cause low pressure. 21. No - maritime means moist, or near a large body of water 22. mesothermal is used to refer to certain forms of climate found typically in the Earth's Temperate Zones 23. Humidity is high, pressure is usually high depending on where you are (there's generally a belt of high pressure around 30 degrees) 24. Doldrums = no winds, no sailing, bad juu juu if you are a sailor in the middle of the ocean. Not necesarrily gloomy though 25. Isotherms are lines of equal temperature 26. Yes 32. Winds turn to the left in the southern hemisphere, to the right in the northern hemisphere (called Coriolis Force, it is an apparant force) 33. Winds are named by the direction they are coming FROM (think frommies) 34. Pressure gradient causes the wind to blow...which is caused by unequal heating (unequal heating though causes all the weather lol) 35. Generally, the west side of mts are wet, east side is dry (called a rain shadow caused by the psudeo-adiabtic process. Think washington state - Seattle gets tons of rain, eastern washington is a desert)
