Copthorne Hotel Auckland, HarbourCity safe good spot stay?

This Millennium Hotels property in Auckland is within 1 km of New Zealand National Maritime Museum, Princes Wharf, and Sky Tower. Auckland Art Gallery is also within 10 km of the property. That's what it's close too, can anyone recommend this area? Safe? Good for tourist things in Auckland? Thanks as always Yahoo!

1. It's fine. Downtown Auckland is safe enough, except late on Friday/Saturday nights when you need to be street savvy.
2. Hello, I stayed at the Copthorne a couple of months back. It was actually cheaper to stay there than a double room with ensuite in a hostel! Quite a nice hotel. They also do good cocktails in the lounge/bar. The area is safe, well as safe as any city. You need to be aware of drunks on a friday and saturday night. Generally there are a lot of people around all the time so its safe. I have been living in Auckland very close to the Copthorne now for 2 months and have never had any trouble. All the bars/pubs/clubs have lots of security so you should be fine. There is a good area for pubs in Viaduct Harbour - out the main entrance of Copthorne, turn left, cross the road and walk towards the boats, when you get to the water turn left again.
