- India has a coastline of 7,517 kilometers or 4,700 miles. According to the United Nations Convention on Law of the Seas (UNCLOS), of which India is a signatory, a coastal country can claim exclusive rights for exploiting mineral and non-living resources in the continental shelf provided it does not extend beyond 350 nautical miles or 648 kilometers from the baseline.
