How could you use contour lines on topographic map to help you locate the source of a river?

- Rivers flow down hill. Use the contour lines to find the highest point where the river is and that should be the head. Hint: Its probably in a mountain.
- At a river the contour lines make a "v" shape, with the sharp end pointing upstream. You can follow this pattern upstream til you find that it disappears and that is where the stream begins.
