How do you do vertical exaggeration for a profile of a topographic map?

The scale of the topographic map is 1:50 000 (horizontal), contour interval = 40m, how do I make a vertical scale, by what intervals do I go up? how many cm aparat should these points be. The vertical exaggeration must be 10x, how do i make that?

  1. The vertical exaggeration is the difference between your horizontal and vertical scales, so for example, a 10x exaggeration, means that if your horizontal scale is 1:50,000 then you vertical scale is 1:5,000. If your contour interval is 40m, then that is your vertical interval. As to how many centimeters apart to make your contours, that depends on your scale. A 40m contour on 1:5,000 scale is 0.8cm because 40m/5000=0.008m.
