should a TV be standby or off in coastal region?

I recede in coastal region where salt is much in air. I was advised to keep my TV in stand by mode rather than being completely off to save the life of my TV. Is it true

1. I'm not sure it would make that much difference. Perhaps the heat generated from being in standby might reduce moisture build up.
